Hungarian folk singer and double bass player Veronika Varga presents her highly anticipated debut album, “True Picture”, a deeply personal musical portrait that captures the essence of her artistic identity. The album features intimate interpretations of traditional Hungarian and Greek songs, primarily performed with voice and double bass, opening a window into a world filled with dreams, nature, love, and melody.

For over a decade, Veronika Varga has performed internationally as a soloist and member of various ensembles, moving effortlessly between Hungarian folk music, the rich traditions of the Balkans, and Greek Mediterranean music. Through her work with bands like Babra, BudaPesme, VreMea Válkània, Epseria, and her a cappella project Lemonokipos, she brings these musical cultures to life in authentic and contemporary interpretations.

“True Picture” serves as a musical self-portrait highlighting Veronika’s two defining forms of expression: singing and double bass. The album reflects her deep connection to the cultures that have shaped her, balancing instinct and awareness, dream and reality. With clarity, tenderness, and intimacy, the collection conveys universal human experiences: love, motherhood, longing, solitude, existential reflection, and the subtle lightness of death.

The album features traditional Hungarian and Greek songs, including lullabies from the Alföld and Transylvanian regions, love songs from western Hungary and Moldavia, Greek wedding songs from Halkidiki and the Dodecanese, arranged in unique interpretations with guest musicians such as Ion Curteanu, Benedek Réti, and the a cappella ensemble Lemonokipos.

A master’s graduate in folk singing and music education from the Liszt Ferenc Academy of Music, Budapest, Veronika began her artistic journey with Hungarian folk music. Today, she is internationally recognized for her authentic interpretations of Balkan and Greek musical traditions while maintaining a strong connection to her Hungarian roots. In addition to performing, she leads creative singing workshops and contributes articles and interviews on cultural and musical topics.
