BS 8450 is written for those involved in the design, installation and maintenance of electrical equipment for the generation, storage, conversion, distribution and utilization of electrical energy for all purposes in ships of all descriptions (excluding warships). This new Code of Practice enhances certain recommendations and text of the 1990 edition of the IEE's (Institution of Electrical Engineers) Regulations for the Electrical and Electronic Equipment of Ships (the 'Blue Book'). The opportunity has also been taken to update elements of text, bibliography and cross-references to other standards, and to make appropriate references to the (BS) IEC 60092 series.
