At the intersection between nature and art, where organic structures meet human design, Daniel Brag (*1964 in Pfullendorf, Germany) starts his creative work and brings together opposites: nature's eternal cycle on the one side, and humankind's culturally determined era on the other. The installations and photographs by sculptor are humorous presentations of fruit and plants as they grow, bloom, ripen, and wither. Wizened pears, for instance, are implanted in their own bed of mold, on refrigerated shelves next to jars containing preserved branches of freshly blooming leaves and buds. The temporal essence of nature thus acquires its own aesthetic and beauty, free of the overwhelming symbolism of the Baroque memento mori, which compresses the process of decay into allegories of the frivolity of life. This publication features the artist's work.
