The diagnosis of AUB and its etiopathogensis is quite elusive. Even with a detailed history, thorough pelvic examination, and different investigations involving blood tests and transvaginal ultrasonography, it is possible to establish the cause of bleeding in 50 -60% of the cases only. Evaluation of women with AUB and establishing a cause is of critical importance to differentiate between structural and non-structural causes as former are mostly managed surgically while medical measures are required for the latter and to establish the benign or malignant nature of the pathology in order to avoid unnecessary radical surgeries and where conservative treatment may prove to be effective.
