The mystery behind the British-Finnish band The Sideshows is finally revealed. Their origin story reads almost like a modern punk fable. Bassist Sami Yaffa, known for his work with Hanoi Rocks, Joan Jett & The Blackhearts, and the New York Dolls, met Ragany in New York in the early 2000s. Over the years, their paths kept crossing in clubs, on tour, and in London pubs. Eventually, Yaffa invited Ragany to his studio in Mallorca, where—together with drummer Simon Maxwell—the songs for their self-titled debut album were created within just a few days, fueled by intense recording sessions, long dinners, and countless shared stories.

Songwriter and creative force Rich Ragany describes the title track as deeply personal. Inspired by advice from his late father during a difficult period in New York, he dedicated the song to him—a heartfelt statement about perseverance and self-belief.

Musically, The Sideshows stand in a tradition tracing back to the New York Dolls, whose raw 1970s rock ’n’ roll blended influences from The Stooges with glam, punk attitude, and a heavy dose of extravagance—an legacy that continues to resonate today.
