You may have heard of the Finnish city of Rauma, best known for its lace-making tradition and UNESCO-listed old town. This attractive medieval quarter comes complete with colourful, wooden buildings and cobblestoned streets.

Less known are the gloomy secrets kept within the walls of Finland's third oldest city.

Since becoming a city in 1442, many dramatic events have occurred, including devastating fires, deadly diseases and violent murders. No wonder that some of its former residents haven't yet found peace.

The ghosts of Rauma are so prevalent that you don't always have to wait for darkness. Footsteps can be heard in empty museums and boutiques, paintings may move inside the Art Museum, and you could even feel an eerie presence within the Old Town Hall.
