The Monograph Series is published by NCTM as a supplement to the Journal for Research in Mathematics Education (JRME). Each monograph has a single theme related to the learning or teaching of mathematics.

This volume considers the background of constructivism, explores what it means to carry out the process of mathematical thinking and describes how children engage in mathematical activity and how teachers can promote this activity.
