A sumptuously produced volume commemorating the Walker Art Center’s first-ever Design Triennial

Uniting 21 of the most captivating contemporary designers and collectives from across the globe, Beyond Materialism highlights how each contributor is engaging with societal challenges and opportunities through the lens of design. The group represents more than 10 countries and features seven designers whose participation in the Triennial marked their first time presenting work in the United States. Through a rich array of ideas, techniques and materials, the selected designers evince incredible vision and imagination as they attend to questions regarding technology, environmental degradation, community building, and social and political justice.
Featuring a dust jacket with flaps and 32 perforated pages, the volume is innovatively designed, aptly honoring its subject matter. In addition to abundant artwork reproductions, the book also provides illuminating texts regarding the conceptual framework for the Triennial and the contributors’ studio practices.
