In this proceedings an up-to-date survey of the fabrication and performance characteristics of solid state ionic devices such as solid state batteries including those in thin film form, electrochemical sensors, fuel cells and electrochromic displays is presented. Emphasis has been placed on the physics and chemistry of the individual constituents of each of these devices. Introductory discussion on theoretical and experimental investigations of fast ion transport in solids is also presented. In addition to several state-of-the-art reviews by eminent scientists from both developed and developing countries, several contributions from Asian scientists are also included in this proceedings.
