The recognition that human decisions and actions at the local level affect the overall environment urged educators and politicians to rethink education in line with sustainable development. Science education can respond to this challenge. Particularly, inquiry based science education favors change in pupils' attitudes and values, facilitates the development of certain competencies and knowledge and therefore may be an important means for education for sustainability. Throughout this book we explore why education for sustainability is important and how to promote it in science classes.
