The true extent of the political role and activities of remote Aboriginal communities is largely unreported and unknown, primarily due to a lack of understanding about Aboriginal society. The myth of Aboriginal people as simply passive welfare recipients remains dominant. "Aboriginal politics" examines Aboriginal interaction with a wide range of agencies at federal, state and local levels. It gives, for the first time, equal emphasis to the importance of each of those levels, and it also takes into account government-to-government dealings. This original work is a ground-breaking examination of the true state of play between Aboriginal people and government. Christine Fletcher is a Post Doctoral Research Fellow at the Federalism Research Centre at the Australian National University. While conducting research for this book, she spent time in Aboriginal communities in outback Western Australia and in the Northern Territory.
