Café Aalto in Akateeminen

Café Aalto is located in the 2nd floor of Akateeminen, in the legendary Kirjatalo designed by Alvar Aalto. Café Aalto has the same feel as many of the small cafes in Europe. The cafe is located in a quiet corner, hidden from the hustle and bustle of the city.

Café Aalto was opened on November 16, 1986. Café Aalto quickly became a well-known cultural café that attracts people interested in culture to gather under the same roof.

Café Aalto serves breakfast every day, a tasty soup lunch on weekdays, and sweet and savory coffee sandwiches. In addition to classic pastries, the selection also includes salads and warm breads. A great cafe experience is crowned by friendly service and table service.

The peaceful environment, unique atmosphere and central location attract people of all ages. At Café Aalto, you can often see customers who have come to read or work.

The cafe is partially decorated with the original Aalto furniture of the Rautatalo cafe. Stockmann managed to save the furniture designed by Alvar Aalto from the auction when Café Columbia closed its operations in Rautatalo.

The family business founded by Maija-Liisa Sjöberg in 1986 is now managed by her son Marco Saracino.Café Aalto has operated as a family business in Kirjatalo for over 30 years.
